About Us

HCB and I have moved to South Korea. He got a job and I get an adventure. We are recent immigrants, so we’ve yet to really figure out what this whole Korea thing is all about, but we’re working on it. This blog will hopefully document our transformations from insecure tourists to jaded locals, so stay tuned. To my friends and family back home: I may have moved away, but I’ll be as present as I can be with the technology available.

  3. Thanks for the comment on my blog. Your thoughtful words are much appreciated. I’ve started weighlifting quite seriously with Crossfit now and quite enjoy it. All best for your move to South Korea – what an adventure!

    • No problem, Samir. It’s a subject often on my mind. In a way, it must be easier for someone in my position because I have no faster/stronger self to fall short of. I bet that’s really frustrating. When I ran my first 5K, I felt unalloyed pride at my accomplishment. When you run a 5K, the accomplishment must be cut with some melancholy. The more forgiveness you can muster, the fewer the impediments, the fewer the injuries. Anyway, I guess I’m just saying that I empathize. Keep up the healing.

P.S. It feels silly to do this on my own blog, but in case you’re interested, I have a fuller account of what it was like for me to really start the recovery process: https://abruptdeparture.wordpress.com/2012/04/24/stepping-out-recovery-and-the-stakes-of-getting-bette/
